I’m very much keeping this one spoiler free as I don’t want to delve too deep into it right now. As you may know, this film is the beginning of the James Gunn DCEU, after Marvel stopped working with him. Terrible decision from Marvel, as it means that their competitor has the advantage of the better director, as James Gunn and Ryan Coogler made the best MCU films in my opinion. So now that the most recent addition to James Gunn’s collection of films is here, and the beginning of a lineup of new comic adaptations in the DC canon, is it good? Yeah, I think so, but I do think it has its issues which I want to get off of my chest. I know I’m something around 7 months late on this film, but because Part 2 is releasing in autumn, I thought that now is a good time to watch the first part, of the two parter adaptation to the beloved musical, Wicked. ..It’s great. I really liked it. Bearing in mind going into this I only knew the basics, Wizard Of Oz prequel, Ariana and Cynthia play the main characters, and obviously defying gravity, so I was very much an outsider to the musical, so I’m just judging it based on its quality as a film and a musical, and not as an adaptation of the play. As a musical, I thought it was great, getting talented musicians who are experienced in musicals to do the music for it definitely helped, although, I would say that, while not a complaint for me personally, as I generally like musicals, I could see a lot of people who aren’t the biggest on musicals hating this.
