Frankenstein (2025) review

I was really anticipating this one's release, Guillermo Del Toro's  Pinnochio was great and the trailers for this looked promising. I'm super glad to say that this wasn't a disappointment.  There's a lot to praise about this film, with the grand, gothic look to the cinematography, especially in Victor's tale, being a highlight. The film immerses you in the world of this film, and is absolutely fantastic looking.  On the acting side, Jacob Elordi play's Frankenstein's Creature very well, as he brings the humanity that makes the character. Additionally, Oscar Isaac's performance as Victor is also great. He plays Victor's descent as a character amazingly, and believably.  It's well paced too, it has a daunting runtime but never felt slow to me. Nothing felt like it was there just for the sake of being there.  Surprisingly I preferred Victor's section overall to  The Creature's, an opinion I can't really explain, but I just liked it ...

Smurfs (2025) Review

Yeah that's right, a new Smurfs movie in 2025, despite the fact that Smurfs doesn't have a market with children at all in 2025. I watched it, mainly because the marketing was horrific and I wanted to see if it's really that bad or if it's just a mediocre kids movie. It really is that bad. I disliked basically everything about this film, although I did like the fact that the cat is called Azrael, because it's the name of the Undertale character, but that's just a coincidence on the writers' part, there is no way they did that because of Undertale. That being said, sometimes it does feel like the film wasn't written by human beings at all, because the script really feels like you typed in 'generate the script for a generic kids film but cater it to the fact that Rihanna is in it' into Bing A.I. (not even ChatGPT.)  The film genuinely is so unfunny and cringe, but also straight up laughably 'borrows' other much better recent films' idea...

Bad Guys 2 Review

The Bad Guys 2 is honestly better than the first. Cutting to the chase here, but it was a blast, with a couple flaws, but otherwise a really fun time. First off, the animation is better than the first, and downright amazing, especially for being outsourced. It was even more fluid and dynamic, and the fight scenes especially looked incredible. Especially the zero gravity fight scene near the end of the film, which was a highlight animation wise. The plot itself is insane, and very difficult to summarise without getting into spoilers. The film is very unpredictable with where it goes story wise, and for the most part it works, with a much more fun and fast paced plot. The villain, Kitty, is also really intimidating, and a scene stealer of a character. The other new characters are also pretty fun additions to the cast, but none compare to how good Kitty is as a villain. She is probably the perfect villain for this story, and Wolf’s arc in the film. Really trying not to get into spoi...

Superman Review

I’m very much keeping this one spoiler free as I don’t want to delve too deep into it right now. As you may know, this film is the beginning of the James Gunn DCEU, after Marvel stopped working with him. Terrible decision from Marvel, as it means that their competitor has the advantage of the better director, as James Gunn and Ryan Coogler made the best MCU films in my opinion. So now that the most recent addition to James Gunn’s collection of films is here, and the beginning of a lineup of new comic adaptations in the DC canon, is it good? Yeah, I think so, but I do think it has its issues which I want to get off of my chest. Firstly, there was one character, and you’ll know who if you have watched the film, who was just insufferably annoying in every scene they were in, and they were in quite a bit of the film, as they were integral to the plot of the film, and finding Lex Luthor. I mentally cheered when they got captured by Lex Luthor, and it was a mood ruin when they returned in th...

Wicked Review

I know I’m something around 7 months late on this film, but because Part 2 is releasing in autumn, I thought that now is a good time to watch the first part, of the two parter adaptation to the beloved musical, Wicked. ..It’s great. I really liked it. Bearing in mind going into this I only knew the basics, Wizard Of Oz prequel, Ariana and Cynthia play the main characters, and obviously defying gravity, so I was very much an outsider to the musical, so I’m just judging it based on its quality as a film and a musical, and not as an adaptation of the play. As a musical, I thought it was great, getting talented musicians who are experienced in musicals to do the music for it definitely helped, although, I would say that, while not a complaint for me personally, as I generally like musicals, I could see a lot of people who aren’t the biggest on musicals hating this. Due to the fact that this may be the most guilty of everything some people don’t like about the musical genre, of any musical ...

TMNT Mutant Mayhem Review

This film was on my watch-list for a while, mainly because of the great and unique animation style I saw from the trailers, but I couldn't find anywhere to watch it. That is, until recently, when it got added to Netflix in the United Kingdom. So I watched it, and I had a lot of fun with it. It is definitely a fun take on the Turtles. They had a very fun dynamic together, and actually felt like teenagers, which is something a lot of the other TMNT movies don’t do all that well. They did a lot of reference humor, which added to how fun the Turtles are, and makes sense for their characters, constantly referencing movies and pop culture because of their over-exposure to it. The reference humor works for those characters really well. Although, there was a bit too much of that kind of humor throughout the film, and not just from the characters that it made sense from. Like, when the security guards called Splinter ‘Ratatouille’ I thought that was a little excessive. Also when  the...

The Plankton Movie Review

I remember hearing about this film leaking about a year ago, long before it actually released, and after the disaster that The Sandy Cheeks Movie was, generally people who saw this early due to the leak thought it was surprisingly good, especially after the terrible last SpongeBob film. So, due to the overall positive reception from leak watchers, I had moderate hope that this film would at least be an alright film, a 6/10. Then, the film officially came out in early 2025 and…. No one talked about it. No one really cared. In fact, I completely forgot about this film until I saw it in my recommended feed on Netflix after watching the original SpongeBob movie. So I watched it earlier, and I must say: If this is your favourite recent Spongebob film, I would completely understand, as this film does have one thing about it that I thought was pretty cool. Especially because, recently, films in the SpongeBob franchise have been in a huge slump of quality, it's not hard at all to get a fil...
